The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that all endorsements and testimonials posted on websites (such as those found in blogs) disclose if there exists a connection between the endorser and the seller of the advertised product that might materially affect the weight or credibility of the endorsement (i.e., the connection is not reasonably expected by the audience).
In the SEO/SEM and Social Media industries so-called “affiliate” marketing (placing a link to a product or service and getting a commission if a sale occurs) and traditional business referrals are standard ways of conducting business. Nonetheless, we’d like to let you know the particulars of our practices:
1. We don’t review any product or service for a fee. We may receive loaner or trial versions of a product or service in order to facilitate that review.
2. Affiliate links to other sites (such as Amazon.com) will be marked as such. We may receive compensation for such affiliate links.
3. Requests for business referrals are common (such as for website design, etc.) and we have cross-referral and/or commission-based relationships with other sites and vendors. While we do not conduct in-depth investigations of business partners, we only conduct business with those parties with whom we believe are legitimate and ethical. In the event that a party to whom we refer you engages in unethical behavior, we ask that you notify us.
4. If you see “Ads by Google” on our site, know that these ads are selected by Google, not us, and if you see a Google ad on our site that is about the same product or service, it will be a coincidence.
