Who Is Fit Past 50 Now For?
I’m Rick Henkin, and Fit Past 50 Now is for people like you and me, the baby boomers. I read a couple of articles last year that said our generation is expected to live longer than all of the generations that came before us and I thought, “well that sounds cool,” I’m all for living a longer life. But then I realized, it could be a double-edged sword. Because unless you’re living those extra years in good health, what’s the point?
Who Is Rick Henkin?
I’m 62 this year 2015. I don’t spend every waking moment exercising, I don’t live at the gym, I’m a regular person just like you. In fact, I used to work out so I could eat. And here’s the proof:
I have three granddaughters, hopefully more on the way. 🙂 But when I took a look at the picture, I realized I had to do something. I want to make sure that I have the energy to play with them. To play catch. To take them places.
I didn’t want to be one of these grandfathers who has to say, “I’m sorry kids, (huffing and puffing), grandpa needs to sit down and take a break.”
So I took all of the knowledge I had learned over the years about exercise and nutrition, and I applied it to myself. And 12 weeks after that first photo, this is what I looked like:
I didn’t starve myself. I didn’t exercise like a fiend.
I just used science.
In fact, I still consider myself a work in progress.
Why This Website?
I created this website to help you live those extra years in good health and fitness with your children, your grandchildren, maybe even your great-grandchildren, and of course, with your friends and family. If I can help you achieve your goal of becoming a little stronger, a little more fit, able to spend more quality time with the people you love, then I will have achieved my goal as well.
Because all I want for you is to “be the exception.”
Be The Exception
Now, what do I mean by that?
The majority of people are not going to put in the time, the effort, and the care to better themselves, health-wise. And while that’s unfortunate, it’s okay, this website isn’t for them. But:
- It’s for YOU- if you want to: Have the energy and vitality to hang out with your grandkids and “lead the pack!”
- It’s for YOU- if you want to: Hike, bike, swim, or tour Disneyland with your loved ones – and savor every minute of it.
- It’s for YOU- if you want to: Join in the fun and activities with your family and friends – without having to take a time out!
EVEN if you hate to diet and exercise!
It’s All Doable
Now, I realize there might be some resistance, some hesitation, especially if you haven’t exercised or paid attention to what you eat in a long time. I also understand the aches, the pains, and the difficulty in becoming fit at our age.
But it’s doable, it’s completely doable.
My hope is that I strike a chord within you, to do something more than you’re doing now. To make yourself a little more fit, a little more healthy, “able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.” 🙂 (I’m sorry, that just came to me. I had to throw it in. For those of you old enough to understand the reference, you’ll get that). But my hope is that you will do something more than you’re doing now.
You know, I think about my friends that I have today, I think about the people I went to school with, I think about my peers in general, and I want everyone of you to live those extra years in good health, happiness, and enjoyment.
